Some information about the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic is a representative democracy located in the eastern two-thirds of the Caribbean island of Hispaniola in the Greater Antilles. It borders the Republic of Haiti to the west, and is bordered to the north by the Atlantic Ocean, to the south by the Caribbean Sea and to the east by the Mona Channel, which separates it from Puerto Rico. The capital is Santo Domingo, the official language is Spanish
National parks
Despite its small surface area, the Dominican Republic is home to nine national parks, one of which is underwater. The Los Haitises National Park is located south of the bay of Samaná; in the Cordillera Central I saw the Armándo Bermúdez National Park and the José del Cármen Ramírez National Park. In the extreme north-west, near the city of San Fernando de Montecristi, there is the Parque Nacional Monte Cristi; in the south-west region, however, near the border with Haiti, the Parque Nacional Isla Cabritos is home to Lake Enriquillo and there are also the Parque Nacional Sierra de Bahoruco and the Parque Nacional Jaragua, the largest of all the Antilles. East of the capital, Parque Nacional Submarino La Caleta is the only entirely underwater reserve in the country; east of La Romana an entire peninsula is occupied by the Parque Nacional del Este.
