Diano Marina is an Italian municipality of 5,977 inhabitants in the province of Imperia in Liguria. It is the seventh municipality in the province by number of inhabitants.
The municipal territory is made up, in addition to the capital, of the hamlets of Diano Calderina, Diano Gorleri, Diano Serreta and Muratori for a territorial area of 6.67 km².
It borders to the north with the municipality of Diano Castello, to the south it is washed by the Ligurian Sea, to the west with Imperia and to the east with San Bartolomeo al Mare.
The territory of Diano Marina is mainly crossed by the state road 1 Via Aurelia which allows the road connection with San Bartolomeo al Mare, to the east, and with Imperia to the west. Other provincial arteries in the area are the SP 36 for Diano San Pietro and the SP 37 for Diano Castello and Diano Arentino.
Diano Marina had its own station on the Genoa-Ventimiglia railway line in the local stretch between Ventimiglia and Savona. The new Diano railway stop was activated on 11 December 2016, at the same time as the new double-track route of the Genoa-Ventimiglia railway, replacing the old Diano Marina station, located on the original single-track route, which was simultaneously abolished.
In the past it was equipped with international connections which it had until 2005, such as the EC train “Riviera dei Fiori” (Basel-Nice) which made an obligatory stop in Diano Marina as well as the EC trains “Sanremo” and “Ligure” (Milan -Nice). In previous periods, the private TUI train Dortmund-Imperia stopped, as did the “Riviera Express” Bern-Nice, with an obligatory and prolonged stop in Diano Marina. High-speed trains such as TGV, Frecce, Thalys, Talgo or ICE do not yet pass through.
